Understanding Your Water Meter Pigtail

Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) utilizes the “Typical Water Service Connection Type A” standard to define where utility responsibility ends and property owner responsibility begins. To ensure your plumbing remains in good repair, please note the following division of maintenance:

  • Customer Responsibility: You are responsible for your entire private plumbing system. This includes all pipes leading to the meter and the pigtail (the pipe section connecting your private line to the meter assembly).

  • LUS Responsibility: LUS maintains the water meter box itself, all internal meter connections, the meter hardware, and the service/main line junction.
