Services & Pricing
What new services could LUS provide?

By extending fiber to homes and businesses, LUS would have the ability to provide residential and business customers with a more affordable package of voice and data applications including local telephone, long distance, digital cable television and super high speed Internet services. LUS would also have the necessary fiber-optic infrastructure in place to enable the introduction of emerging technologies as they happen. And as a local, customer-owned company, LUS can provide innovative bundles of services designed specifically to meet the unique needs of our customers!

Who would own the fiber to the home optic network and how will the rates be determined?

The fiber optic network that LUS operates today is owned by the citizens of the City of Lafayette. The extension of this network to every home and business would be owned by the citizens of Lafayette also.

Rates would be set locally based on costs (i.e. cost to operate and maintain the system, pay back the bond financing, programming, system reinvestment, etc.). As a not-for-profit, municipally owned and governed entity, our goal is not to generate profit, but to provide a critical infrastructure for the economic growth and viability of Lafayette.

Will I have to buy all three services from LUS?

No. A customer can choose any, or none, of the communications services LUS will offer.

Will I have to sign a contract to receive these services from LUS?

No.

Will LUS be able to serve multi-dwelling units, like apartments, with this system?

Yes, the technology is already in place to do so.

Will there be a fee to connect to the LUS communications system?

No. There will be no connection fee required for a standard installation.
